Auto Review 2010 Mitsubishi MN Triton

Auto Review 2010 Mitsubishi MN Triton Pricing And Details Announced

MITSUBISHI AUSTRALIA has today revealed pricing and details for the 2010 Mitsubishi MN Triton, featuring a new high-power turbo-diesel engine and a longer, deeper tray.
Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited President and CEO Robert McEniry said the carmaker decided to release details of the updated Triton early in response to strong demand for the current model, now all but sold out.
“Triton is one of the mainstays of the Mitsubishi range and has always proved popular as a practical and rugged work vehicle that can take all the hard knocks thrown at it,” Mr McEniry said.
“And, more recently, its recognised four-wheel drive capabilities and car-like comforts have seen it used for recreational activities as well.
“June sales were the highest monthly sales ever recorded for Triton in this country, and now our stocks are running low.  In light of this, we have decided to release details of the new 2010 Triton early.”
The 2010 Mitsubishi Triton is offered with a five year/130,000km whole vehicle warranty, and a 10 year/160,000km powertrain warranty. A five year/unlimited kilometre roadside assistance package is also offered.

    Styling

The rear tailgate of the 2010 Triton features a swage line, making it more resistant to soft-impact denting.
The tray of the updated Triton is 14 percent larger than the current model – in line with the recently updated UK version of the Triton – growing from 1325mm to 1505mm in length and a further 55mm in depth.

The new MN Triton’s tub is a match for any in the segment. It is just 25mm shorter (barely the thickness of a thumb) than the longest tray - found on the Ranger and BT-50 dual-cabs - and barely short of the Nissan’s Navara.
The front end gets a new bumper, grille and side-turning lamps. Otherwise, new alloy wheels, body-coloured fender flares and new side-steps (on the GLX-R) set the MN range apart from its predecessor.

There is also a new mid-price model, the GL-R. It sits in a value slot below the GLX-R and can be visually distinguished from the premium model by the horizontal chrome slatted grille, flat side steps and 16-inch alloys.
The GL-R, which also gets nudge bar, carpets and leather steering wheel, is available in both 4x2 and 4x4 dual-cab variants.

    Interior

The interior trim has been given a new, darker hue, while the front seating receives improved comfort and support updates.
There is now better under-thigh bolstering for both driver and passengers. The seat fabric is also smarter-looking and a little classier to the touch.
The extra padding and improved shaping to the front seats, while not ‘body-hugging’, will be immediately noticeable to those familiar with the ML.
The instrument cluster is revised as is the floor console which now features a larger stowage bin between the front buckets (with an integrated arm-rest). Under the lid in the premium models, and shielded from prying eyes, are the Bluetooth, iPod, USB and RCA aux-in connections.

    Equipment

With a 4-Star ANCAP rating under its belt, the MN Triton comes with standard driver and front passenger airbags, front and rear door impact bars, ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, front seatbelt pretensioners, and child restraint points,
Mitsubishi’s All Terrain Technology (MATT) is standard on all GLX-R models, featuring Super Select four-wheel-drive system.
Active Stability and Traction Control, Multi Mode ABS, and Electronic Brake Force Distribution feature in the MATT system, along with an optional Diff lock.
The audio system (CD, MP3/WMA compatible, iPod connectivity) has also been upgraded across all models, the top-of-the-line GLX-R getting a six-speaker arrangement. Bluetooth connectivity is standard across all models.
In GL-R and GLX-R models, cruise control, side and rear window demisters, tilt-adjustable steering column, leather-bound steering wheel, driver’s foot rest, halogen headlamps and rear seat head-rests, are standard (among a range of features).
The GLX-R can be further specced-up with Mitsubishi’s optional multi-communication system with sat-nav, DVD, integrated Bluetooth and iPod control.
Towing capacity is up from the 2500kg rating of the current Triton dual-cab diesel to 2700kg on two-wheel-drive models, and 3000kg for four-wheel-drive models.

    Mechanical

Four-wheel-drive variants of the Triton now feature a 2.5 litre HPD (High Performance Diesel) inline four-cylinder engine, developing 131kW at 4000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2000rpm for the manual version, and 350Nm of torque for the automatic.
Fuel consumption for the manual version of the 2.5 litre HPD is 8.3 l/100km while automatic variants return a fuel economy of 9.3 l/100km.
The new engine, offering 11 percent more power and 17 percent more torque, succeeds the outgoing 3.2 litre DiD turbo-diesel.
Two automatic transmissions are available with the 2.5 litre HPD model: the four-speed automatic of the current generation carries over to all but the range-topping GLX-R, which is fitted with an electronically controlled five-speed automatic with a sports mode that offers improved shifting, performance and CO2 emissions.
Two-wheel-drive models retain the 2.4 litre petrol engine and 2.5 litre diesel engine from the current line-up.
The petrol engine develops 94kW at 5250rpm and 194Nm of torque at 4000rpm, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. Fuel consumption is rated at 10.9 l/100km.
The lower-spec 2.5 litre diesel engine produces 100kW at 3800rpm and 314Nm of torque at 2000rpm, returning fuel consumption figures of 8.2 l/100km in manual guise and 8.6 l/100km for the automatic.
The 2010 Mitsubishi MN Triton is available in eight two-wheel-drive variants: the petrol powered manual GL cab chassis and GLX dual-cab, automatic or manual diesel powered GLX cab chassis and dual-cab, and GL-R dual-cab.
The new HPD 2.5 litre diesel engine is available with four-wheel drive models in either manual or automatic transmissions in GLX single-cabs and dual-cabs, GL-R dual-cabs or GLX-R dual-cabs.
